I woke up in the cabin to the sounds of children talking in the living room. After breakfast and enjoying my cup of coffee on the steps, watching the lake and the playing children, I was ready to start our day. The lake was a bit wild and restless today, so we headed into the forest.
To get to the forest, we waded through a field of flowers. Wood cranesbill, Red campion, Heath speedwell and Bellflowers were in bloom. The yellow field of flowers was like from another planet. Large ferns were like trees to the kids, and they started to look for their own huts under those.
Then we found the “real” forest. And so did the mosquitoes found us. We did not let them bother too much and kept walking deeper into the forest. We found some mushrooms (not edible) and some funny round mossy patterns on decaying tree stumps.
Birches are at their most beautiful now. I could watch them all day! Their white trunks look so good against the fresh green forest.
