This beautiful letter to the World Tree, Yggdrasil, was written by guest writer Lucy. She reflects on rootedness, connection, and the web of life – themes that resonate deeply with nature.
Dear Yggdrasil,
As I walk towards you in the misty evening light I know your roots are spreading towards me, deep in the Earth, welcoming me home. I can imagine them mirroring your crown in depth and width, strengthening your soul. I wish I had roots like you. They connect you not only to yourself but to the life around you, cementing you in time and place.
You are unstoppable and immovable, exchanging nutrients within your community, within your means. Your contribution to your ecosystem is foundational, signaling warmth, presence and strength. Yet you do not allow yourself to be robbed, choosing what you give and giving it without expectation of return.
If another part of the system does not take part in the exchange you simply let it exist without interaction. You do not withhold, nor do you beg. You simply continue as you are, content in your own presence. Your roots form infinite patterns, each acting according to its soil and direction, yet part of the whole. It does not wait for direction but forms partnerships of its own creating a kaleidoscope of webs.
In the greatest storms, only the deepest connections survive. Many are quickly built and easily broken, but the strongest are formed over the years, friendships built to weather centuries. I have started to regard my own relationships in this way. Not all will endure all weather, yet are valuable in their own time. And like you, I have some roots which I hope and trust will never fail.
We are all part of this wider web, in all it’s beauty and fragility, growing and changing with weather and time.

When Trees Still Whisper but Are We Still Humans?
My grandmother once said she can hear her old garden’s trees crying when she sold the house and new owners cut them. I thought it was nonsense back then, but now I’m not sure.
Such a beautiful reflection of nature through conscious BEing.🍁💛 Thank you!
This is so beautiful 🍂 thank for sharing the beauty of how a tree grows and the networks it forms. 🙏
