Awesome. Thanks for sharing! I'm in BC Canada on Vancouver Island. I love whitefish we have them in Canada too.

Thanks for your comment Jeremy! Canada’s nature is so similar to ours here in Finland, and I feel you have the same kind of connection to the outdoors as we do.

I’m not a fishing expert, even though I’ve been fishing since I was a child. My partner fishes too, and we go on fishing trips together whenever our busy family life allows. 😅

My most memorable catch was a roughly 40 cm European perch, which I caught from the sea while casting from the shoreline rocks in a small bay. We didn’t have a measuring tape with us, so we couldn’t record the exact length. We spent the night in an old, very simple fisherman’s hut and cooked the three big perch we caught over an open fire. It was an amazing trip. 🎣

Wow! That sounds great. Thanks for sharing! I grew up in Canada. So many great memories. My family were all fishermen. Hunting and fishing is big here. If anything, the rules have been changed. I like to fish for trout. We can eat the trout. Most of the other species are catch and release here in BC.

Ah, interesting that those other species have to be released there but not trouts. Here in Finland, it’s actually salmonids that are the most protected, and their fishing is the most strictly regulated. In some places, fishing for salmonids is completely prohibited, and elsewhere there are minimum size limits. Nowadays, you also have to report some fish when you catch one, and those are mostly salmonids too. We really prefer to fish for and eat salmonids. Zander as well. Sometimes, rarely, we keep perch or pike. 🎣

Once again fantastic pictures of a wonderful nature. Sounds that you had a lwonderful day and once again it made me think back! It is funny to think that I was born and raised by the same sea. As long towards the west you can get. In the main city- Sønderborg - on a small Island - Als- situated in the corner where the south of Jutland is connected with Germany. As a child I was very fond of the water. During the summer we spent most of our time at the sea baths. Sometimes we cycled down there in the morning after breakfast and returned home when they closed in the evening. Only going home to eat and then back again.

I still live by the same sea, but now a little further towards the east, but still on an island. Now I live in Faaborg on the south coast of Funen, the last picture. I have only lived 3 years inland in the middle of Jutland, when I was studying.

We have the same problem with pollution here as you have. And I agree with you it’s such a shame.

Thank you Karen! It was really interesting to hear again about your childhood.

Unfortunately your photos don’t appear in the comments section of this post. Could you post them under one of my notes so I can see your beautiful pictures? ☺️🌿💕

Did I succeed this time?

Anna, Grow Wild in Forest Soil's avatar

Sorry for replying only now, things have been very busy with family and work. I just found the photos! Apparently there are two different ways to view comments on a post, and with this second view the images actually show up. Always something new to learn!

Your photos are beautiful, and they made my morning better. (That always happens when I see blue sky and water.) ☺️💙

The same here! There seems to be several things we both like 👍 💕

Hi Anna. Yes I agree. There are opportunities to fish here. I am used to fresh water fishing, and on the lakes, the rules are more relaxed.

Looks almost like summer and time for a bath Anna😍🥰🌿 Great images and so nice to hear about all your activities out and about on the Island. Its sad with all the pollution, much to be done.

Thank tou Tony! 🫶🏼🌿It wasn’t quite time for a dip yet, but maybe next time when we go to the cottage and I can go straight into the lake from the sauna. Have you already had your first swim of the year? 🏊🏼‍♀️

Yes, it is sad that the baltic sea is so polluted. But what beautiful photos and what a perfect day to spend with family and recalling memories !
